Authenticity is where it's at!

Before the session, I usually ask clients what are the most important images they’d like to capture and many families ask for “just one good photo where everyone is looking” and of course I’ll make sure I accomplish this but interestingly, when images are delivered, families choose authenticity and soulful images every time. The images they gravitate to are images that exude feeling, emotions and connection. A technically perfect photo means very little if it doesn’t make you feel something.

Authenticity and emotional connection is where it’s at!

A great family photo doesn’t need everyone looking directly at the camera. Some of the most impactful images come from interaction instead of actual posing. Walking together, hugging, talking, laughing, playing or simply holding kids close often creates far more emotion than asking everyone to smile on cue.

Nearly every parent apologises at some point during a session, concerned that the kids are not at their best or the most cooperative during our time together. But during their concern I’ve usually already got the shot in the bag and feel confident that I’ve captured the moment in between the happy, laughing and giddy mayhem.

I constantly get asked “ when is the perfect time to book session?” and in truth, there is no perfect time....you’ve just got to seize the moment and book in a photo session because life always feels too busy and messy.

Children grow quickly, routines and personalities evolve, and stages pass before we fully realise they’re gone. Waiting for everything to feel calm and perfectly organised usually means waiting forever.

Photograph your loved ones at any age and any stage, you won’t regret it! The only thing you might regret is not having done it sooner…..xx

Photographing newborns with their new furry friends is my ideal family photo session

There is nothing quite like photographing the newness of a relationship between a newborn and the beloved family pet. The careful sniffs, the snuggles and kindred feeling between them is a wonderful thing to be asked to capture photographically for my clients. This newborn photo session at home was no exception, the two pups were incredibly careful, soft and patient with this new little one. People are always saying to me that they think it would be a nightmare to work with both animals and children in the same photo session, on the contrary, I thrive in this domain.

As mad as it might seem, my absolute love of all animals and four years in veterinary nursing lends itself to combining all my loves in one….photography, babies & animals in all it’s adorable craziness and this session certainly didn’t disappoint!
