14 days new.....

By bringing two different collapsible backgrounds ( one black and one white ) with me to your home, I am able to create different moods and feelings by using the way the natural light falls in your home. Slight adjustments in positioning, natural light from the windows and sheer curtains all lend themselves to creating images with contrast, depth and spirit. All the while being in the comfort of your own home surroundings. For most clients, a newborn photography session will be your first delve in to the world of professional photography. Having the session take place at home means that all participants feel more relaxed and comfortable, rather than in a studio which can sometimes feel daunting and stark. My clients for this newborn session had viewed my extensive online portfolio in advanced and determined that they wanted a mix of colour and black & white images ( for printing purposes ) against the black background for a look and feel to match the interior design of their own home. We were able to capture so many gorgeous images in the 90 minute session and I think the results speak for themselves :))

And so it begins....embracing a new chapter

The newness of family life at home….one minute they were a new couple with a dog & cat. The next minute this little sweetie joined their lives. Through the haziness of the early newborn stages, this session was a time to get dressed and be a new version of their union, as parents of this incredible new little being. This session was captured at home in the comfort of their natural surroundings. Family photography sessions at home are an easy way to just relax into the event and let the morning unfold gradually, as precious moments are captured and the uniqueness of your journey is expertly cataloged for prosperity.

The art of cat napping

Cat napping refers to short and frequent naps that little ones might take sometimes in order to “refresh”. This session with Baby H was a precise example of how a short cat nap during his newborn/family photo session was very much needed and worked a treat!! We started the session on time, but had to wake bub up from his mid-morning sleep, which then meant that he wasn’t as rested as he otherwise might have been if he had woken up naturally. Part way through the session he seemed a bit irritable and with all smiles disappearing, Mum swaddled him up and lulled him back to sleep. After about an 8 minute power nap he woke up as bright as a button and continued the session in happiness, contentedness and with gorgeous smiles!

There have been countless times when a newborn is so overtired and stimulated during a photo session that I suggest that they have a cat nap and without doubt, every time, we get the best of them on the other side of that sleep. The cat nap can even be as short as 5 minutes but they wake up refreshed, smiley and ready to go! Needless to say I’m a massive fan of the cat nap :D

Reliving the newborn version of your baby one tiny foot at a time.....

Capturing the pureness of a newborn babies feet is something that’s just “a given” at every newborn photography session I’ve ever done over the past 25 years. Those tiny, soft, squishy feet and teeny weeny toes are the very essence of what makes all new parents hearts melt into a sense of utter gorgeousness and awe. These feet with all their deep lines, curled toes and flakiness deserved to be captured for prosperity as minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day those tiny tootsies grow and that minute perfection in all it’s glory is lost in the sands of time. These images are a few examples of little ones feet and tiny toes that I have had the honour and pleasure of capturing for my clients….Enjoy!

While capturing these joyful moments for my clients, I am often reminded, through my own journey as a mother of two, that you love so many aspects and versions of your baby, but never get to say goodbye to each version as you’re so busy falling in love with the next version….the growing, the changes and awareness of your beloved new being is constantly morphing into another version of themselves….for now, the only tangible way to hold on to these times is by capturing them with imagery, so that you can look back on those sacred and momentous times that will pull at your heart strings once more….

Newborn Home Sessions are lovingly created by you and captured by me.

Taking the time to invest in a newborn photography session at home is a rewarding experience. It might seem daunting, but moments like these captured below during a newborn session at home on the Sunshine Coast, can’t be replicated once your missed that window of perfect tininess. Newborns grow so quickly, blink, and you’ll miss these truly special and adorable moments.

Photographing newborns with their new furry friends is my ideal family photo session

There is nothing quite like photographing the newness of a relationship between a newborn and the beloved family pet. The careful sniffs, the snuggles and kindred feeling between them is a wonderful thing to be asked to capture photographically for my clients. This newborn photo session at home was no exception, the two pups were incredibly careful, soft and patient with this new little one. People are always saying to me that they think it would be a nightmare to work with both animals and children in the same photo session, on the contrary, I thrive in this domain.
